‘Generation velcro’: Why kids can’t tie their shoelaces anymore

A new cultural dialogue is emerging around Generation Z, with experts highlighting a growing gap in traditional practical skills, such as tying shoelaces, reading an analogue clock and writing with a pencil. 

Demographer and social researcher Claire Madden joined 3AW Mornings with Tom Elliott to discuss the causes of this shift, noting that Gen Z has “missed out on what happens with the slower process of things”.
