Gerard Healy says the ‘tagger-saurus’ isn’t extinct after Levi Greenwood shuts down Joel Selwood

Sportsday

Gerard Healy says Levi Greenwood’s shutdown job on Joel Selwood shows the tagger isn’t extinct in football.

Greenwood was sent to the Geelong captain on Sunday following his match-winning 43 disposal effort against St Kilda a week earlier.

The Collingwood midfielder held Selwood to just 17 disposals and restricted him from having any significant impact on the match as the Pies sprung a desperately needed upset at the MCG.

Brownlow medallist Healy said on 3AW it showed tagging could still be a more than handy tool, despite the modern coach’s preference for ‘team defence.’

‘The dinosaur lives – the Taggersaurus Rex,’ Gerard Healy said on Sportsday.

‘It just seems so obvious to me that you’re better off with a 17-man defence with a small hole in it if you can restrict the likes of Selwood.’
