German tourists’ car stolen in bizarre incident on Great Ocean Road
A woman on Victoria’s surf coast has come to the aid of two German tourists after their car was stolen in a bizarre incident on the Great Ocean Road yesterday.
Bhakti De Bon told Neil Mitchell the two 19-year-old girls were stopped at a lookout when a woman drove off in their car.
“They were carjacked and felt very threatened,” Ms De Bon said.
“The girls tried to stop the lady but however she was quite determined, she drove off with the doors open.”

Ms De Bon said the girls flagged down a driver who followed the woman until she stopped in Wye River, where she was arrested.
After seeing a post on a community Facebook page calling for someone to take the girls in, Ms De Bon offered and the pair stayed with her overnight.
“They ended up staying with me and my family, I’m German and I backpacked 20 years ago,” she said.
“They have great strength, lots of courage, they were in shock but they managed it well.”
Police say a 40-year-old Tasmanian woman has since been charged over the theft of a campervan about 5pm yesterday.
She will appear at Colac Magistrates’ Court in March.
