‘Ghastly, dirty and dated’: Does Flinders Street Station need a makeover ahead of Docklands?

Marvel Stadium and the Docklands area could be significantly redeveloped in coming years, as the city searches for ways to entice more visitors to the area.

But the debate has moved towards whether other areas in Melbourne are in greater need of redevelopment than the Docklands precinct, with Shane McInnes saying a renovation of the “ghastly” Flinders Street Station was a bigger priority.

“Surely in Melbourne there are other redevelopment projects for the state government to be prioritising and investing in (than Docklands),” he told 3AW Afternoons.

“Flinders Street Station – the so-called entry point to the city – is ghastly, dirty and dated. To me, this is substantially more of a (redevelopment) priority than Docklands.”
