Gil McLachlan says ‘there will be relief’ as season 2021 comes to a close
AFL CEO Gil McLachlan says while they’re not at the finish line yet, he admits there will be relief as season 2021 comes to a close.
For a second year running the AFL season has been severely affected by the pandemic with hubs, empty stadiums and last minute fixture changes.
“Touching wood, we’ve still got 36 hours to get there, and we know things can change, but we’re getting close now,” he told Tony Jones on 3AW Mornings.
“Yeah there will be relief, and I’m pretty proud of what our players, our clubs, our coaches and staff, my team, our supporters, all players and their families, everyone’s done their bit.
“I know this game is so important to so many, I reckon it’s played a bigger role in people’s lives than ever.
“Relieved and pretty proud that the supporters and industries have done it together.”
