Gillon McLachlan explains his funny encounter with a footy fan in a taxi

Sportsday

Gillon McLachlan says he isn’t concerned by Jaeger O’Meara’s decision to leave the Gold Coast Suns.

The embattled expansion club will lose two of its most talented players this summer, with Dion Prestia also flagging his intent to leave the Suns.

The head of the AFL told Neil Mitchell it was a reality of modern football.

‘Players leave clubs,’ he said.

‘History says it’s never the end of the world.

‘You look at Adelaide losing (Patrick) Dangerfield… They’re in a strong position to win the flag.

?’Geelong won the year after losing Ablett and Hawthorn won the year after losing Franklin.’

McLachlan also spoke about Sydney’s hopes of breaking their contract with ANZ Stadium to play any home final at the SCG.

He also discussed an interesting taxi trip he had with a footy-loving fan!
