Gillon McLachlan opens up about his decision to step down

AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan earlier this week announced he’ll step down from the game’s top job at the end of the season.
He says he felt some nerves about the decision the night before announcing it, but now he’s feeling “good”.
“I feel good. The game is in a good spot,” he told Neil Mitchell.
McLachlan says he’d “like to take a break” before taking on another role, but flagged that may not be possible – it all comes down to what he does next!
The outgoing AFL CEO also shared his hopes for the game in a decade.
“I’m optimistic that it will be truly national,” he said.
“I’m optimistic across the board that it’s a game for women as much as it’s a game for men.
“And I’m optimistic that we’ll be playing a role in more people’s lives that haven’t been historically a part of our game.”
