Gillon McLachlan reaches out to Swans as Buddy Franklin takes time off
AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan has reached out to the Sydney Swans as Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin takes time off to deal with an ongoing mental health condition.
Franklin will miss this week’s match and it’s unclear when he’ll make his return.
‘I don’t think it’s right for me to call him direct, if he wants to talk he knows I am available, I know he knows that,’ he said.

Specialists at St Vincent’s hospital in Sydney reportedly told the club on Friday to leave Franklin out of Saturday night’s clash after he was treated for an epileptic seizure.
But Mr McLachlan said club doctors are well placed to know what’s in the players best interest, although he couldn’t confirm whether the reports were true.
‘I don’t have any other information other than what I’ve read in the paper like you,’ he said.
‘The primacy of the club doctor is clear they know the players best, they have a long history with them.’
