Following a week of debate about the 30 second AFL shot clock, the controversial scoreboard countdown will remain for round 8.

Last Sunday in the St Kilda v North Melbourne clash, the Kangaroos won controversially when Mason Wood used the shot clock to his advantage in wasting time until the final siren went, which assured them victory.

AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan confirmed to Neil Mitchell that a simple solution would be to keep it throughout the match and then take it away for the final couple of minutes.

‘Let the umpires use their discretion,’ Mr McLachlan said.

‘Have it there, have all the best bits of it, then in the last couple of minutes, just don’t have it.’
