Girl, 1, hit by car driven by mother

A mother is said to be distraught after accidentally hitting her toddler while driving out of her Avondale Heights last night.

The one-year-old child suffered serious injuries when she was hit by the car as it was reversing out of a driveway on Riverside Avenue about 8pm.

Nearby residents have told The Herald Sun the woman behind the wheel is believed to be the child’s mother and was distraught, screaming “What have I done” while the father knocked on neighbours’ doors desperate for help.

The girl was taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a serious condition.
