Golfers ‘disappointed’ by baffling last minute reopening rule

Golfers and tennis players have been left baffled by a last minute change to reopening rules for recreation facilities in Melbourne.

Some outdoor physical recreation facilities in metropolitan Melbourne yesterday reopened for groups of up to five fully-vaccinated people or two people who are unvaccinated or have only had one vaccine dose.

But the Health Department last night added a line to its website stipulating that  indoor facilities including toilets must remain closed.

The Rumour File broke the news, and it was followed up by Neil Mitchell.

Club captain at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club, Andrew Kirby, says it’s “micromanagement to an incredible degree”.

“Maybe there’s been a miscommunication or something has been misconstrued but we have staff there, we have lots of women playing, we have people with medical conditions – they need to use the toilets,” he told Neil Mitchell.

“It’s just a bit disappointing after the excitement of opening yesterday.”

The Royal Melbourne Golf Club is seeking clarification from the Health Department this morning.
