Carlton has been accused of going to ground amid the controversy surrounding their now former president Luke Sayers, who has stepped down from the role.

An explicit photo was sent from Mr Sayers’ X account earlier this month, with the AFL concluding on Wednesday that he hadn’t breached any rules.

The Age senior sports affairs reporter Sam McClure told Jacqui Felgate they should have spoken publicly sooner.

“I think Carlton has gone to ground in a situation like this,” he told 3AW Drive.

“We haven’t heard from the club for two weeks and it’s allowed the story to grow legs where it could’ve been stopped.”
