The young man who rushed to the aid of a couple who were struck by lightning has recalled his desperate attempts to save Lauren Brownlee’s life.

Brandon Cleine was first on the scene in Chirnside Park after the 24-year-old and her partner Ben Hollow were struck by lightning on Friday night.

“There’s a lady lying on the ground pale as a ghost, burn marks all around her throat and the other guy was paralysed from the legs down,” Brandon told Neil Mitchell.

“The paramedics got me to do CPR on her while they set up the defibrillator.”

Brandon (pictured on 7 News) stressed the importance of the life saving procedure being taught in schools.

He also said he is struggling after the distressing ordeal.

“I wouldn’t say I’m okay but I’m dealing with it as best I can,” he said.

Lauren sadly passed away and Ben is in hospital after having leg surgery.
