Government to make Telehealth permanent with funding boost
Telehealth will become a permanent feature of Australian healthcare, as part of a plan to strengthen the system.
The federal government is investing more than $100 million into the virtual service over the next four years.
It was first introduced at the beginning of the pandemic, to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Dr Karen Price, president of the Royal Australian College of GPs, said it was welcome news.
“It is good news for patients, good news for doctors,” she said on 3AW Mornings.
“It helps us maintain continuity of care which we know has the greatest evidence of long-term outcomes.”
