Grammy-nominated American jazz guitarist playing in Melbourne

Mike Stern is a six-time Grammy-nominated American jazz guitarist. 

He’s now fully recovered after breaking both shoulders in a freak fall on the street in New York in 2016 which caused him to cancel an earlier Australian tour.

He’s back and performing six shows at Bird’s Basement in the city.

Mr Stern told Denis Walter he was lucky to get through the accident.

‘It’s getting better. I still have some problems but I’m able to play that’s all i want to do,’ he said. 

‘If my hands go I will figure out how to play with my toes. Might be a new style.’
