Greens leader Richard Di Natale says the ‘disproportionate’ doping bans handed to the Essendon 34 is the reason he wants the AFL to review its relationship with WADA.

Mr Di Natale told Tom Elliott some of the doping policies weren’t necessarily fair or suited to team sports.

He said the wrong people had copped the harshest penalties.

‘I think the system is targeting the wrong people,’ he explained on 3AW Drive.

‘I’m not saying the athletes are blameless ? they need to cop some of the responsibility ? but I think it is disproportionate and unbalanced when we’ve got a system that lays the blame almost exclusively at the feet of players.’
