Greens leader Richard Di Natale slams Turnbull government’s overhaul of university education

Greens leader Richard Di Natale has slammed the federal government’s plan to overhaul tertiary education in Australia.

He’s labelled it ‘a disaster.’

The Turnbull government is set to announce cuts to university funding in next week’s federal budget, also increasing fees and lowering the HECS debt payback threshold from to $55,000 to $42,000.

Speaking on 3AW Drive, Senator Di Natale called on the government to ‘go after’ multi-national tax avoiders instead.

He said young Australians were becoming increasingly disgruntled with the system, given they also struggled to ‘crack’ the housing market and would be left to deal with the current generation’s ‘inaction’ on climate change.

‘There’s this massive intergenerational divide developing,’ Mr Di Natale warned on 3AW.
