Greg Hunt reveals he voted for Tony Abbott during Liberal leadership ballot
Environment Minister Greg Hunt says he can ‘categorically’ guarantee the government won’t change its policies on emissions reduction targets and the carbon tax, despite changing leader.
Mr Hunt, who also revealed on 3AW Drive he voted for Tony Abbott during Monday night’s ballot, said he’d let Malcolm Turnbull ‘decide’ whether he kept his portfolio.
The new Prime Minister is a known supporter of an emissions trading scheme, but Mr Hunt was adamant the party’s current stance wouldn’t change.
‘No, and categorically no,’ Mr Hunt said on 3AW Drive.
‘And the reason I say that, is that he (Turnbull) has already committed ? expressly, clearly and absolutely ? to supporting the emissions reduction fund.
‘As he said on the floor of parliament today ? it’s working.’
