RUMOUR CONFIRMED

New sneaky surcharges are creeping their way onto Melburnians bills at many venues across the city.

As revealed on the 3AW Rumour File, coined the ‘Sydney Surcharge’, patrons have now be noticing at extra 10 per cent surcharges when making bookings for large groups.

Speaking with Ross and Russ, CEO of Australian Restaurant and Cafe Association, Wes Lambert, said that extra charges like this are goign to become more normal as demand of patrons grow.

Press PLAY to hear why these charges are being used

“It’s seeing that wages are national and most of the costs and expenses that businesses incur are national. I think Melbourne is going to be getting with the times” Lambert said.

The practice has been long standing at venues in Sydney, with all extra costs and charges needed to be declared on the restaurants website.
