A growing number of celebrities have spoken out against deepfakes with Tom Hanks the latest to warn against an advertisement which used artificial intelligence to make a fake of him.

Professor at Melbourne Business School and former executive at Google and Microsoft, Dr Hugh Williams, says this has been going on for ‘years.’

“We could build technology that can detect these things but if … you’ve seen these things, they do look pretty fake,” he told 3AW Breakfast.
