A Liberal National MP is pushing to criminalise the act of burning the Australian flag.

Member for Herbert in Queensland and veteran Phillip Thompson says there’s no consequence for burning the flag.

“There’s rules around the flag, you can’t fly the Australian national flag at night unless it’s illuminated by light, but on the other hand, you can light it on fire and the Prime Minister can call it a peaceful protest,” he told Tom Elliott.

Mr Thompson has also criticised Australia Palestine Advocacy Network’s Nasser Mashni for his comments on 3AW Mornings last week.

“I think that’s a grubby comment … words like that separate our nation,” he said.
