‘Horrified’ friends of ‘very, very drunk’ thief return stolen Espy keys

3AW Breakfast had an off-air rumour about a set of ornate keys being stolen from a Melbourne hotel.

The miscreant, 3AW Breakfast was told, got a pang of the guilts because the keys were returned with an anonymous note, apologising for their drunken behaviour.

Or was it really them?

It turns out the pub involved was the new and revamped Espy, and it was friends of the thief — not the “very very drunk” thief — whose consciences saw sense.

Owner Andy Mullins told Kate and Quarters he found a padded package in the mail this week with an apologetic note (see below).

He was thankful the keys were returned and didn’t hold a grudge.

“It’s just funny, mate,” he said.
