Guy blasts Victoria’s pandemic declaration extension

Opposition leader Matthew Guy has blasted the extension of Victoria’s pandemic declaration, saying it’s “not justified”.

The pandemic declaration — which was due to end next week — has been extended for three months.

Premier Daniel Andrews says the declaration extension is required because COVID-19 continues to pose a “serious risk” to Victorians.

Under laws passed last year, the Premier needs the declaration to enable the Health Minister to make orders on vaccine mandates, mask requirements, and isolation requirements.

Victorian opposition leader Matthew Guy says “there are better ways forward than this”.

“All this kind of stuff, it just hurts our ability to recover,” he told Heidi Murphy, filling in for Neil Mitchell.

“You can feel it — Victoria is stalling, and it’s stalling because there isn’t clarity and certainty of a way forward.”
