Port Adelaide star Hamish Hartlett has expressed his shock at being the target of several multi-year deals that led to him signing a five-year contract extension with the Power this week.

Hartlett was on the end of several lucrative offers from Victorian clubs, something the midfielder admits took him by surprise.

‘My manager rang me up about four or five weeks ago and said ‘mate, we need to catch up and discuss a few things’ and he put these offers down on the table which sort of spun my mind a bit,’ Hartlett said on 3AW’s Sports Today.

‘I think more than anything it was probably the length of the deals that really hit me and something I hadn’t considered.

‘Port Adelaide was obviously happy to come to the party for that period of time as well, which was great.’

The former No.4 draft pick, who was already contracted for next year, will remain with the Power until at least the end of the 2021 season.

He said the lure of success was the ‘main reason’ he chose to stay.

‘Overall, as players and competitors we’re all sort of chasing that dream of winning a flag and I think I’ve got every chance to do that here at Port Adelaide,’ Hartlett said.

‘It (also) means staying home and being with my friends and family.

‘I’ve got no reason to move anywhere.’

And with his own future locked away, Hartlett’s interest has now turned to Charlie Dixon.

He revealed he had caught up with the Gold Coast ace, who looks all but certain to join the Power this summer.

‘He’s a great bloke, he’s really down to earth and has a really good head on his shoulders for a 24-year-old,’ Hartlett told 3AW.
