Hamish McLachlan has vowed to get back on the horse – literally.

Speaking during his regular slot with Neil Mitchell on Tuesday, the popular broadcaster recalled the terrifying moment he was trampled by a horse last week.

The fall left him with six broken ribs (some broken in multiple places), a collapsed lung and broken scapula (shoulder).

But McLachlan said he was ‘very, very fortunate’ to escape with the injuries he did.

‘If it was six inches to the left, it could have been really ugly,’ McLachlan said on 3AW.

‘As soon as the thud came I knew that it was more than just a graze.’

But the accident, McLachlan’s worst in 35 years of riding horses, won’t stop him from riding again once he recovers.

‘I will definitely get back on,’ he said from his bed at The Alfred hospital.
