Hawkins suspension not inconsistent with Lynch fine: Christian

MRP member Michael Christian does not think the suspension of Tom Hawkins is inconsistent with Tom Lynch’s fine.

Hawkins was suspended in Round 11 for a punch to the head of Phil Davis, while the Sun forward was fined for a punch to the body of Jeremy Laidler.

But Christian told 3AW Football Lynch would have also been suspended if his punch was heavier.

‘Yes, Laidler stayed down for a few seconds, but then he got up and played on,’ Christian said.

He said punches to the head cannot be penalised with a fine.

‘I don’t think rational people can look at a game and identify someone who looks at someone else, clenches their fist, and jabs them in the chin, and think ‘that’s okay’,’ Christian said.

‘It’s not.’
