Health Minister ‘hopeful’ euthanasia bill will pass before year’s end
Euthanasia legislation will be put before parliament in the coming weeks.
Speaking on 3AW Mornings, Health Minister Jill Hennessy told Neil Mitchell cabinet had agreed on a bill to be introduced.
The government last week received recommendations from a medical advisory panel.
Ms Hennessy said she was hopeful the bill would pass by the end of the year.
“I would hope so, Neil, but I’ve learned to never make predictions about the ups and downs of the Victorian parliament,” she said.
“Honestly, I think there is very widespread community support.
“I would say the vast majority of MPs are supportive, in principle, but want to be assured by safeguards.”
