A Melbourne council has backflipped after a disgruntled resident contacted Jacqui Felgate to report a case of “bureaucracy gone mad”.

Upper Ferntree Gully resident Ashleigh helped to clear a fallen tree from the road after Tuesday’s wild weather. When they reported the debris to the council they were told they’d have to pay a fee to have it removed, but if they’d left it on the road removal would have been free.

Only an hour after Ashleigh spoke to 3AW, a council representative had knocked on her door and the council had agreed to remove the debris for free!
