“What an incredible story.”
– Ross Stevenson.

A hero cop who shot dead one of Australia’s most dangerous criminals has recalled that fateful day and the impact it’s had on his life since on 3AW Breakfast.

What began as a routine stolen car check at Creswick – just north of Ballarat – for Ian “Dizzy” Harris on December 5, 1992, would end in a fatal confrontation with one of Australia’s most notorious gunmen – Edward James “Jockey” Smith.

“I remember it like it was yesterday,” Mr Harris told Ross and John.
