Mum’s selfless act as Brunswick home went up in flames
Fire crews have rescued a 74-year-old woman and her 45-year-old daughter from a fiery blaze at their Brunswick home.
A blaze broke out at the Laura Street residence just after midnight.
Thirty firefighters attended, finding the home fully alight and a resident, a 77-year-old man, on the street calling for help.
They found an older woman and her adult daughter, who uses a wheelchair, unconscious inside the burning home.
Both women were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
7News reporter on the scene, Paul Dowsley, said the mother didn’t want to leave her daughter, who couldn’t get out.
“Mum has stayed in the burning house with her daughter to try and keep her safe,” he told Neil Mitchell.
It took firefighters 45 minutes to control the blaze.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
