The RACV isn’t happy about the timing of the announcement of the closure of Hoddle Street.

The road will close between the Eastern Freeway and Victoria Parade from January 7 to January 14 for upgrades.

Dave Jones from RACV told Ross and John motorists deserved a bit more notice.

“(We’re) not too happy,” he said.

“Many commuters have already locked in their holiday plans, as have the businesses they work for.

“To find out these sorts of things now so close to Christmas is going to disrupt people’s lives.”

Roads Minister Luke Donnellan says the works are planned to happen between the Boxing Day Test and the start of the Australian Open tennis.

“I understand you can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs, but why are the works starting on January 7 and not January 1 or 2?”
