Hollywood’s Zsa Zsa Gabor dies aged 99
Zsa Zsa Gabor has died, just a few weeks short of her 100’th birthday.
The glamorous actress, who hadn’t been seen in public for years, had suffered a string of health issues over the last two decades.
She would have notched up her centenary on February 6.
Earlier this year she was hospitalised with breathing difficulties resulting from a lung infection.
In 2012 she had a lengthy stay in hospital with a severe throat infection.
A year earlier her right leg was amputated above the knee as the result of an infection, and her ninth husband, Frederic von Anhalt, said that it was 18 months before she realised it was missing. He said she hadn’t made the discovery herself because one hand is paralysed and the other was unable to reach, and that he didn’t tell her about it because ‘It will only upset her. She was so glamorous always, and she is so vain.’
In 2002 Gabor was injured in a car crash, and again in 2010 when she fell out of bed.
The Hungarian-born beauty became a sex symbol in the 1950s and was known for her colourful love life which included nine marriages.
She once said: ‘I am a marvellous housekeeper. Every time I leave a man, I keep his house’.
Gabor died of a heart attack.
