You have an unfair advantage when it comes to the pension if you own a home, Tom Elliott has explained.

The 3AW Drive host pointed out two people could have made the same amount of money, over the same amount of time, but the person who bought a home could qualify for a pension.

Somebody who had chosen to invest their money elsewhere, such as shares, would not.

‘It’s not fair,’ Tom Elliott said.

‘Here’s the issue.

‘A house is different, because a house is an emotional asset.

‘And because it is an emotional asset, most politicians are too afraid to change the rules surrounding it.’

But there is plenty of discussion as to whether those rules might soon change.

‘Scott Morrison is right to have this debate,’ Tom Elliott said.
