Homelessness advocate Lisa Peterson has labelled yesterday’s violent protest at the homeless camp outside Flinders Street Station as ‘devastating to the community’.

Speaking to 3AW’s Neil Mitchell, Ms Peterson said, ‘As far as we know it was a group of protesters, believe it’s a homeless persons union, but not sure if they were invaded by other groups or not’.

Ms Peterson said yesterday’s protest has had a devastating impact.

‘Money has dried up, donations have dried up, foods dried up, people are really struggling out there.’

Ms Peterson isn’t sure how to ‘break the link’ to professional agitators.

‘I don’t know how we stop it…this community has enough negative stereotypes going on as it is, we don’t need this to happen anymore.’ she said.
