Homeowners left in tears as government insurer ignores pleas for help
Victorians with unfinished builds have been left in tears as they try to work with the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA)
Homeowner, Rob De Maid, says he’s received no answers from the government insurer after his build was impacted by the collapse of Porter Davis.
“We were six weeks off completion, if we were to be paid out, we could get this done, we could move in and put this behind us, but we’re getting no answers,” he told Jacqui Felgate.

Homeowner, Ronnie who was impacted by the Bentley Homes collapse, says his family could be left homeless if they can’t move into their home by December.
“There’s no way we can keep on paying rent and mortgage … the week after Bentley went bankrupt, our landlords increased the rent by almost $400 a month,” he said.
Nat says his experience with the VMIA was a “complete nightmare.”
“You try and give them a call and they’ll direct you to lodge a message on their online portal to which they never respond,” he said.
