Homeschooling crackdown unfairly targets educators
Victoria’s homeschoolers are set to face tougher registration qualifications as part of a State government crackdown.
Led by Education Minister James Merlino, changes will see one in ten families targeted for an audit each year.
Sue Wight, Coordinator of the Home Education Network says “the devil is in the detail.”
“They are handing complete control to the VRQA (Victorian Registration and Qualification Authority) and they will be designing the plans and requirements without any input from a home education base,” Ms. Wight told Tom.
“You wipe out the protections home educators currently have.”
Ms. Wight says there are currently 4743 children in Victoria being home schooled.
However she says it shouldn’t be compulsory for them to be taught the Victorian curriculum.
“There is a whole wealth of human knowledge out there, who decides what goes on the curriculum.”
