Police have revealed human remains discovered at Mt Cottrell in Melbourne’s west belong to a man in his early 20s.

Walkers made the grim discovery on the banks of a creek near Dukelows Road shortly before 3pm yesterday.

Homocide detectives believe the man was of Asian background and said his body was found partially clothed and wrapped in plastic.

Time and cause of death are yet to be established but police said the body may have been at the scene for up to three weeks.

The death is being treated as suspicious.

Investigators will be checking missing persons records and it is hoped further DNA tests will provide clues.
