A major Melbourne hospital has been accused of “insulting” staff after it offered workers a free potato cake to say thanks for their work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’d almost be funny, if it wasn’t so insulting,” Neil Mitchell said on Wednesday.

The 3AW Mornings host said there was no doubt it was well-meaning, but it had missed the mark.

Several staff members have expressed their displeasure about the move online, branding it “offensive” and “insulting” and saying they feel “underappreciated” for the work they do.

The free potato cakes are being given out at Dandenong Hospital this morning.
