The man behind the assault of a paramedic in September last year has escaped a mandatory jail sentence, leaving the hospitalised woman “devastated”.

Secretary of the Victorian Ambulance Union, Danny Hill, said the woman is awaiting surgery, and admitted these types of assaults happen on a regular basis.

“These assaults on our members are just okay,” Mr Hill told Jacqui Felgate.

Paramedic Sam then told the 3AW Drive host he was “beyond angry” after finding out the news today.
