How a simple voice recording can determine whether you’re drunk

Researchers have developed a program which can tell if somebody is drunk from a 12-second voice recording.

Professor Emmanuel Kuntsche from La Trobe University says the app still needs further development and would not be suitable to replace breath tests for police use, at this stage.

But he says it can have many other uses.

“It’s illegal to serve intoxicated patrons at a bar, which is sometimes difficult to work out, so it could be used for that, for example,” he said.
