A Victorian couple wanting a quick coffee while travelling in outback Queensland have ended up helping run a pub for four months!

3AW Breakfast was alerted to the story by “Here’s The Keys, We’re Outta Here” on Tuesday’s edition of The Rumour File.

Jenny Tucker told 3AW Breakfast she walked inside the Einasleigh Hotel to find the owner completely flat out.

So, she decided to get behind the jump to give him a hand!

A couple of days later, the owner went on a well-earned break and left the keys to Jenny and her husband.

“I’ve actually run hotels before, so I think they realised ‘these people know what they’re doing’ so that’s why they were confident to go,” she said.

“They purchased the pub a year earlier and hadn’t had a day off, the poor things.

“Everywhere out there is just owners running cafes and pubs without any staff – they’re exhausted.

“We ended up staying four months with them.”
