Researcher working to extract more information from fingerprints left at crime scenes has uncovered a new way to detect breast cancer.

Professor of forensic and bioanalytical mass spectrometry at Sheffield Hallam University, Simona Francese, says she “stumbled across” the discovery.

A subsequent study of 15 women has found the sweat on fingers contains proteins that allow scientists to detect breast cancer with 98 per cent accuracy.
