How Djokovic’s visa saga could make it ‘hard for him to play’ in other tournaments
Novak Djokovic’s visa saga could have enormous implications for his sporting future.
Former tennis player turned sports broadcaster, Todd Woodbridge, says there’s a question mark over whether the Serbian tennis star will be able to get into other countries, such as the United States and United Kingdom, to play.
“A lot of people suspect that it’s going to be difficult getting into other places after this and rules, because of what’s happened here in Australia, will become very strict and very tight, and you imagine that it might be hard for him to play more,” Mr Woodbridge told Neil Mitchell.
“I think he’ll have to make a decision about whether to continue on this line of not taking a vaccination, or does he go and eventually get it and that solves his issues altogether.”
Mr Woodbridge says the saga has changed the way Djokovic “will be viewed for the rest of his career”, and may hamper his future career.
“He was on the verge of being crowned the greatest tennis player of all time and he has leadership aspirations that are very much in line with starting a new player union and all of those types of things,” he said.
“Unfortunately what’s played out here over the last couple of weeks has, I think, stripped him of that opportunity to be that person.”
