How Melbourne is becoming a ‘segregated’ city
A federal minister fears Melbourne is being turned into two separate cities, the inner and middle suburbs near the CBD, and the sprawling fringe, more than an hour away.
Federal Housing Minister Clare O’Neil has told a conference it’s because of planning decisions, and a ‘not in my backyard’ culture.
Professor Peter Dawkins from the West of Melbourne Economic Development Alliance says growth in his region can’t be ignored.

“It’s the fastest growing region in Australia,” Professor Dawkins said on 3AW Breakfast.
“Is it not screamingly self-evident that the Suburban Rail Loop is being built in the wrong place?” Ross Stevenson asked after the interview.
