Business advocates say we should look to the success of Melbourne at night when it comes to springing the CBD back to life during the day.

The Victorian head of the Australian Industry Group told 3AW that while the city “struggled” during working hours, the nighttime economy was “booming”.

Tim Piper said the fact people were freely able to make decisions about where they went and whether they wore a mask was undoubtedly a factor, amid calls for mandates and mask recommendations at the office.

“They’re choosing to go in and enjoy themselves and they have to look after themselves when they do,” he said.

“I don’t know why we can’t do similar in the workplace.”
