Federal Opposition Leader Peter Dutton says Australia has to fix its “real problem” with gambling ads during sports better.

There’s a push to ban all ads integrated into major sports broadcasts, with the issue in the spotlight on the back of the recently-concluded Paris Olympics.

Mr Dutton told Tom Elliott he was incensed by how ingrained the culture of betting has become around the country’s major sports.

“I think it’s an abomination when you’re sitting there watching the footy…when there’s a conversation about someone’s multi,” he said on 3AW Mornings.

“In some cases, people are happy for their team to lose because they’ve backed a multi that involves the other team. The culture that has been driven here is a real problem.”
