How taxes impact our drinking habits
Increasing the cost of alcohol through taxes would undoubtedly lower the amount drunk, according to new research.
It comes amid concerns about the drinking habits of Australians.
Associate Professor James Fogarty, Head of the School of Agriculture and Environment at the University of WA, said there was a strong correlation between cost and consumption.
“Over time, as we become richer, we tend to spend more on a wide range of goods and alcohol is one of those,” he said.
