A new expert design panel will review CBD building applications before they’re considered by council in a bid to stop “crap” being built.

Councillor Nick Reece, the City of Melbourne’s deputy Lord Mayor, told 3AW the panel would be made up of architects and designers.

He said there was no doubt some of the skyscrapers built over the past few years had not improved the city skyline.

“We have had some crap built in recent years,” he said.

“We need to do better as a city.”
