How the Richmond injecting room has impacted house values
Data has revealed the supervised injecting room wiped almost $60,000 off the value of nearby homes.
Deakin University researchers examined more than 9000 house and apartment sales within a two-kilometre radius of the facility between 2016 to 2021. They found houses within 800 metres of the injecting room have had an average price reduction of six per cent since the injecting room opened in mid-2018, relative to the rest of the examined area.
But unit prices don’t appear to have been impacted.
This data comes after Victoria’s upper house last night voted to make the facility permanent.
The injecting room has saved an estimated 63 lives since it opened.
