An increasing number of parents are reporting being overwhelmed by their child’s behaviour – causing some to resort to physical discipline.

The figures are borne out in the latest child health poll by the Royal Children’s Hospital.

It’s found parents are struggling with the stress of trying to manage their child’s behaviour.

It’s resulting in many losing their temper.

The report shows about one in five parents threaten to smack, hit or spank their children when they misbehave – with 17 per cent resorting to it.

Dr Anthea Rhodes told Ross and John some parents could not understand the reasons for their child’s behaviour and that seeking help was always an option.

“Lots of parents are struggling and they’re not alone,” she said.
